Post New Computer Time!
You know the drill... I really know nothing about today's motherboards and CPU's, so those are what I'm really looking for tips about. These are my conditions:

1.) I was told I can build a really decent computer for 500-600 bucks. If thats true, stay within there. Otherwise, $800-$1000 is the absolute highest I ~should~ go.

2.) I have had a great history with AMD/ATI graphics cards, I would like to stick with those.

3.) Am not picky between AMD or Intel processors, I want whats better for cheaper.

Thanks all!

P.S. Hi everyone! hope your all doing well.

This might give you a good start:

http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/247 ... -the-Month

I am by no means into hardware as some of others but I would say get an i7 with Windows 7 64 bit and ask Micas to sell you his current video card after he buys the latest and greatest next month.

Ps.
Nice to see you around Mega, how you been?

Prices from newegg, didn'y know if you needed a case or an OS. Best to wait a month or 2, the mid range refresh from AMD is due soon which means you'll get 6970 performance in a 7870 for the price of a 6870.

Hmmm... Thats looking good Kor. If i wanna go lower price the mmo-champ comps are decent.

Grey: Things are going great. I'm in grad school for Public Administration. Will do my focus in either public policy or health administration. Other than that, Bronn and my other roommate and myself are starting to get into property development and investment.

Listen to Kor.. he's the most informed out of everyone I know about that shit.. and If you can pull the video card out of your old machine to use temporarily, he's right that waiting for the new ATI cards would be the way to go.

However - keep in mind that Kor is an ATI fanboi..

Pick a different drive to the FAEX 1TB.

I've had it for about 8 months now, and in the last month it has gotten extremely loud when it's seeking.
Louder than any harddrive I've ever owned.

I'm using
Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822148506

$140 at newegg. I'm actually using 2 in raid 0, and they are fantastic. I'm getting speeds better than most SSD's (that aren't newly released). You could use just one and it'll perform extremely well. It's more expensive than the 1TB WD, but the extra space is worth the money IMO. That, and if you do decide at some point you want to get another drive and RAID it, the Seagates will support that, whereas the WD's do some monkey business with it's TTL, so they are not recommended for RAID use.

I use a third drive, a WD 2tb green, to backup an image to. I lost a drive in the raid in my last build and was SOL, learned my lesson, and now do a daily backup of the complete raid image. It takes about 15 minutes for the image to update and I never notice it's running.

I would like to wait for the new cards, but mine is frying out. So its kinda something I need to replace now. I will prolly go with what Kor posted with Micas' or Phaded's recommendations for the HDD. And I'm also an ATI fanboy. So, I got your back, Kor!

Lol, I have zero interest in hardware brand fanaticism, the 6870 is just the quickest in class at that price (and you expressed an interest in sticking with them).
